PROJECT:
During the economic meltdown in 2008, I was hired as a freelance copywriter by Purigen’s agency of record to find a new way to get on the radar screen of car dealers, tire retailers, and oil & lube retailers. I conceived and wrote a series of ads for Automotive News featuring Jeff Gordon, accompanied by direct mail advertising and collateral. The “Fight Recession with Inflation” headline was designed to put a positive twist on the product by positioning it as a money-maker, not an expense.

Because GM had recently given a green light to its dealers that Purigen 98 was an approved vendor, the agency hired me as a freelance copywriter and creative director to concept and write a “100th Anniversary Salute to GM” ad for pubication in Automotive News. I reasoned, why not take the opportunity to talk to dealers about Purigen 98’s commitment to saving fuel and being green.
